A Purpose-Driven Brand Decided to Stand Out with Messaging That Cuts Deep Below the Surface
So They Won Over Clients, Slayed Their Competitors, and Lived Happily Ever After
THE END
You don’t have to be the loudest kid on the block (read: brand in your industry) to drive visibility, connections, and conversions. What you need is meaningful brand messaging that evokes genuine human emotions and resonates with your target audience.
Fusing proven copywriting techniques, storytelling, and a creative strategy, I’m here to help you stand out & be seen. Because there’s no one like you - and that’s a cause for celebration.
I rent an overpriced Alphabet City apartment with two roommates I love to death. A rat is living under our couch, but there’s also a wine & cheese shop next door, so everything balances itself out.
When I’m not doing research for my Honors Thesis, I’m working at a publishing house, editing book manuscripts. My biggest dream in life is to become an English professor. On the weekends, my friends & I go on adventures that I probably shouldn’t go into detail on a professional website. Life is good, but something is missing. I’m chronically tired. I crave something different and more meaningful, but I’m not sure what it is or where to find it.
Let’s throw it back to circa 2019. I’m studying English Literature & Creative Writing at NYU, constantly hearing, “So, what are you going to do with…that?” from (mostly) well-meaning family & friends.
We all know what happened in March 2020, right? *Cue in the global pandemic and NYC almost running out of toilet paper*
Luckily, I wasn’t there. By a twist of fate, I was on a plane to the Dominican Republic one day before international travel shut down. What was I doing there? I was visiting my boyfriend, in the middle of a global pandemic, because YOLO!
I’m stuck in a tiny beach town with one traffic light, working remotely for the aforementioned publishing house (see Chapter I). At first, I’m - literally and metaphorically - covered in stress hives. But then I start to kind of…like it?
Making my own schedule. Waking up and hitting the beach. Meeting interesting entrepreneurs from different corners of the world who think that getting some work done and then going horseback riding in a tropical jungle is just a normal Tuesday.
So, I start trying to figure out how to put my so-what-are-you-going-to-do-with-it English degree to use. After a few sleepless nights, it hits me: copywriting. Helping businesses sell more with their words. Does it sound like something up my alley? Oh, most definitely.
Most importantly? I feel fulfilled. I’m genuinely obsessed with the work I do & the brands I help make a bigger impact. I express myself more & more authentically every day and find my unique style for writing copy & content. Client results prove that what I’m doing works. I’m free, creative, and inspired to dream even bigger.
I’d be lying if I said that it was easy. Growing a freelance business takes hard work, many late nights, and constantly pushing myself out of my comfort zone. But my client roster keeps growing and my skills keep improving, and soon I’m working with brands that I could only dream about when I first started.
Inspired, I consume every copywriting course in existence. I practice writing clever headlines and test out SEO tools until my fingertips bleed (ok, I might be exaggerating here). I get my first clients and it feels like Christmas. They like my work and refer me to more clients?
I’m proud to say that I’ve served 100+ clients and feel genuinely excited when I open my laptop on Monday mornings. That boyfriend I randomly came to visit in March 2020? He’s now my husband and we have an adorable toddler running around, getting into every mischief imaginable.
I’d tie this story into a bigger copywriting tip or lesson, but that feels corny and nothing comes to mind. This is just my story about how I found what I didn’t even know I was looking for in the least likely of places. About how taking risks and following your authentic truth pays off. It turns out you can do awesome things with your English degree, after all!
I’m always learning about copywriting & SEO and refining my services to help my clients reach their goals. I believe that in a dynamic field like marketing, there’s always room for improvement (it helps that I’m a nerd at heart and have always loved school 🤓).
At Deeper Than Copy, I care about more than just making money (although as a small business owner that is, of course, important). I work with purpose-driven businesses that are making a difference in the world and selling services and products that truly help people. If that’s you, let’s chat!
When you run an online business, you see all kinds of examples of people not acting out of integrity. I hold myself to a high standard, avoid unethical marketing techniques, and speak my honest thoughts in conversations with clients. I can also promise you that a real human is writing your words, not ChatGBT.
Proven copywriting strategies only get you to a certain point. Your target audience is always evolving, so I’m not afraid to try new things and experiment to stay ahead of the trends. I don’t fall into a stale pattern of doing things, even when they’ve been proven to work because there’s always a way to make what works even better.
Even though I regularly work with all genders, my favorite clients are female entrepreneurs & women-centered brands. I’m interested in unpacking the intricacies of female life experiences and helping women-founded brands stand out with confident & meaningful messaging.
“I usually feel like I need to have control when it comes to my business to make sure things are done well and the way I like them (I know, very type A), but working with Polina took such a weight off my shoulders! I always felt at ease and knew that I was in good hands.
I’m finally able to connect with my community in a way that I haven’t been able to before. I’m used to providing education to them, but with my new copy I’m now connecting with them on an emotional level and you can't put a price on that.”
I speak three languages: English (duh), Spanish (from living in the DR), and Russian (from growing up there for part of my childhood). I also really want to learn Italian and Brazilian Portuguese!
I alternate between romantasy and thrillers/crime and my Kindle is one of my favorite possessions. When I’m feeling emo, you’ll find me bingeing Harry Potter fanfiction.
To write a book and own a farm in the jungle.
Running after my toddler, meeting up with friends on the beach, hanging out at a local colmado (Dominican mini-market that’s always blasting music), and a quiet night at home with my husband or my closest girlfriends.
Putting on my oldest pair of sweatpants and watching Love Is Blind after my toddler’s bedtime.
